Albert E. Smith Perry, 83, a loving husband, dad, pa, and great-grandpa, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 29th, 2011. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late William B. Perry and Lillie Wilson Perry. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Milas and John Perry, sisters, Eloree Clark, Mary Raines, Lyda Pressley, Jane Reynolds, Carrie Murr Patterson, daughter-in-law, Sandy Perry, and grand-daughter, Cynthia Perry. He attended Anchor Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Lois Stewart Perry, children, Alan Perry and wife Desiree of Cedar Mtn., Jack Perry of Cedar Mtn., Pat Perry Thompson and husband Ernie of Old Fort, Barbara (Barbie) Perry Johnson and husband Ken of Little River, Karen Perry Murr and husband Travis of East Fork, and Kevin Perry and wife Melissa of Cedar Mtn., 14 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren also survive. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday at the Anchor Baptist Church with the Revs. Randy Barton, Don Waters, Alan Perry, and Nathan Johnson officiating. Burial will be at McGaha Cemetery in Cedar Mountain. The family will receive friends from 6-9pm at the church. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Douglas Mason, 65, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011. He was the son of the late Harlow and Ada Owen Mason. He was also preceded in death by his best friend and loving wife, Katherine Mason. Mr. Mason was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp and a member of North Toxaway Baptist Church.Surviving are his two daughters, Kim Rector and husband Kent of Troutman, NC, and Jenny Harron and husband Danny of Etowah; four grandchildren, Cole and Eli Rector, and Lauren and Jackson Harron, all whom he adored. He is also survived by one brother, Lloyd “Sonny” Mason and wife Shelby Jean of Brevard and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm Sunday, April 3, 2011 at North Toxaway Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Mullis officiating. Burial will be in Lake Toxaway Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:15 pm Sunday at the church.

Harlan H. “Nels” Nelson of Hendersonville, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at the Elizabeth House. He was born on Nov. 21, 1921 in Chicago, Ill., to the late Hugo Albin Nelson and Mabel Crockatt Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lora J. Nelson, who died in 1999; and son, David A. Nelson, in 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Loretta Nelson Buettner and husband, Terry, of Hendersonville; daughter-in-law, Su Nelson of Eagle River, Wis.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, a sister, Elaine Kress and her husband, Frank; and three nieces. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel. A reception will follow at the family home. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Howard Ray Fisher, age 87, of Lake Toxaway passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2011. He was born September 18, 1923 in Jackson County, NC, to Warren Isaiah and Edith Monteith Fisher. He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Mable Kitchen Fisher; sons Glen Fisher and wife, Wanda; Keith Fisher and TC Thomas; and daughter Bobbi Powell and husband, Billy. Grandchildren are Lynette Conard and husband, Tony; Darlene Griffin and husband, Allen; Paige Aiken and husband, Robert; April McNeely and husband, Mack. His great-grandchildren are Addison and Cambell Conard, Mason Griffin, Kendall and Riley Aiken, and Alex, Avery, and Liam McNeely . He is also survived by his brother, Dick Fisher, his sisters, Dorothy Rogers, and Ruby Pruitt and husband, Bob. He has two sisters-in-law: Frances Fisher and Linda Fisher, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Larry “Cotton” Fisher; two brothers: Ben Fisher and Jim Fisher; two sisters: Lucy Owen, and Willie Bryson; and one grandson: Linville Keith Fisher, Jr. Visitation will be Thursday, March 31 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, April 1st at 2:00 pm at Macedonia Baptist Church where he will also be buried.

Faye S. Simms, 85, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Transylvania Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was a daughter of the late Jethro and Tunia Burns Sentelle. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John Simms “Jr.”, three sons and their wives; Dennis and Diann Simms of Yuma, AZ, Wayne and Beth Simms of Pisgah Forest, NC, Bryan and Ann Simms of Lake Toxaway, NC., one daughter; Lynnette and her husband Tom Griffith of England, four grandchildren; Chad Simms, Jenny Simms Mikesell, Nathan Hall and Bo Simms; 8 step grandchildren, one sister; Eva Rogers, and three brothers; Frazier, Kline and Charles Sentelle. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 1, 2011 at Cedar Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Owen and Rev. Harland Ramsey officiating.

Naomi Shoobs Kurinksy, 82, of Pisgah Forest, died Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Oaks of Brevard. She was born April 18, 1928 in Denver to the late Bernard Shoobs and Freda Shapiro Shoobs. She is survived by her husband Allan Manuel Kurinsky of the home; a son, Phillip Kurinsky of West Roxbury, Mass.; a daughter, Sharon Kurinsky of Jamaica Plain, Mass.; and a sister, Marilyn Gross of Clifton, N.J. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Marguerite Creech Isgett, 81, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Oaks at Sweeten Creek. She was the daughter of the late Ebbie Creech and Julia Quick Creech and wife of W. Lee Isgett, who died Feb. 14, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her seven elder brothers. Surviving are her children, Sharon Isgett McMurry and husband, Patrick of Arden, Stephen Isgett and wife, Tammie of Fletcher and Scott Isgett of Taylors, S.C.; grandsons, Timothy Isgett, Tyler Isgett, Noah McMurry and Thomas Isgett; sisters-in-law, Mary Creech of Wallace, S.C., and Frances Isgett Matheson and husband, Bill, of Asheville; brother-in-law, Perry Isgett of Cheraw; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following services at the funeral home.

Billy Norris Joyner, 78, of Flat Rock, died suddenly Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at his residence. Born on April 17, 1932, in Lavinia, Carroll County, Tenn., he was a son of the late Onel and Maggie Joyner. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph C. "Joby" McMurray, 71, of Zirconia, went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 28, 2011, in his home with family and friends at his side. He was a lifelong resident of Henderson County and the son of the late TM and Nellie McMurray. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joann McMurray; a sister, Mary Ellen Hill; two brothers, Tom and Lee Roy McMurray; father-in-law, Walter L. McWhirter; brothers-in-law, Richard, Walt, Roger and Bob McWhirter, Ray Tavel and Herman Hill; and a sister-in-law, Tess McMurray. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann McMurray; daughter, Sonya (Mark) Capps; son, Joe (Gayle) McMurray; grandchildren, Greg and Carl McMurray, Will and Cameron Capps, TJ Justice, and the only granddaughter, Shyann Capps; one great-grandson, sisters, Pauline Case, Brenda Tavel, Sheila McWhirter, and Betty (Bill) Hill; brothers, John McMurray, Ralph McMurray, Jack (Carolyn), Jim (Lavada), Bill (Pam), Ron (Lori), Russ (Peggy), Randy McWhirter; several nieces and nephews; and a mother-in-law, Pauline McWhirter. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A private entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Forest Lawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Peggy S. Smith, age 50, of Sylva died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Harris Regional Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born March 17, 1961 in Sylva, NC. She is the daughter of the late Jackie Ammons and the late Frances Pearl (Mathis) Farmer. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Jerry Dyer. She is survived by her husband: Joseph Smith; her step-father, Harry Joe Farmer; a step-son, Jonathan Smith of Sylva, two daughters, Chrystal Shular of Miami, FL, and Melissa Seymour of Sylva; a step-daughter, Tina Smith of Sylva, four brothers, Douglas Allan Farmer of Franklin, Craig Farmer of Sylva, Buddy Ammons of Ft. Payne, AL, and Darrin Ammons of Sylva; two sisters, Renee Hooper and Vickie Grace, both of Sylva; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be at Appalachian Funeral Services on Thursday March 31 from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. The funeral will follow in the chapel of Appalachian at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the Keener Cemetery, following the funeral.
