Ruth Elizabeth Luker Bowen, 99, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Brian Center, Brevard. She was born on May 27, 1912 in Transylvania County to the late Marcus and Mandie Fowler Luker. She was married on September 7, 1946 in Pickens County to Homer Cleveland Bowen. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sons, K. Revis and Joseph Louis Luker, her brothers, Haskell, Claude and Woodrow Luker, and her sister, Beulah Capps. Mrs. Bowen was 99 years old and would have been 100 in May and was a lifelong resident of Transylvania County. She was a member of the Rosman Church of God. Surviving are her grandchildren, Martha Rice and husband Sammy of Cashiers, Margaret Camp and husband Randy of Green River, NC, Randall Luker, Ellery Dalton, and Marl Luker all of Anderson, SC; great-grandchildren, Gregory Camp and wife Christina, James and Randy Camp, Becky and Victoria Luker, and Joseph and Angela Dalton; great-great grandchildren, David Luker and Levi Reese; several nieces and nephews; special people in her life, David Kenneth McCall and Norma McCall Shipman. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Rosman Church of God with the Rev. Mike Pressley officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 pm Tuesday at the Rosman Church of God. At other times, the family will be at her house on Burnt Rd. in Rosman. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Edward Hartke, 73, of Hendersonville, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at his residence. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors will announce arrangements.

Barbara A. Gotshaw died on March 16th, 2012 at Beystone Health & Rehabilitation. She was born in Detroit, MI to the late Harold and Evelyn Gotshaw and Ruth McCauley. She was a granddaughter to the late Jesse and Ida Caldwell. She was preceded in death by her sisters; Dorothy Gotshaw and Alice Gotshaw Batson. Surviving are her four brothers; Richard Hall of New York and Keith, Robert and Steve Gotshaw of MI, one sister; Linda Doyle of MI, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews survive as well. No services are planned. Moore Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for.

C. Ward Summey, 69, of Asheville, NC, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012. A native of Hendersonville, he was the son of the late Ulysses Columbus Summey and Lytha Oneill Summey. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 21st at Shepherd Memorial Park in Hendersonville. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Joseph Land, 82, of Hendersonville, died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation. Shuler Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Burleigh C. Boedeker, 98, of Hendersonville, N.C., died Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Life Care Center. He was born on December 23, 1913, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He was married to Margaret Greeve, who preceded him in death in 1968. He is survived by his wife, Emma, whom he married June 17, 1972, and by his sons, Ronald and Larry, two grandsons, Brian and Garren, a great granddaughter, Chloe Marie, a sister Alice Beenken and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be on Wednesday March 21, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service. Jackson Funeral Service is in charge of local arrangements. Burial will be in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Glenavin Cason, age 79, died at home on March 13, 2012 of natural causes. A native of Georgia, she became a resident of Hendersonville in 1962. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, O.W. Cason as well as by an infant son, her parents Horace Vivien Shurling and Stella Langford, and sisters Mary Engel, Helen Shurling, and Delano Bellflower. She is survived by three daughters, Lee Cason White, Cynthia Cason, and Angela Cason Hickey, who survive her along with their spouses and children, Dr Michael, Glenavin, and Samuel White; Jennings and William Ward, and Rod, Ellery and Roddy Hickey.

Flossie Mae Evans, age 86 of 221 Chestnut Street peacefully passed away into eternal rest Thursday March 15, 2012 at the home. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Washington Missionary Baptist Church in Shelby, NC. The family will receive friends from 2-3pm, one hour prior to service. Interment will be at the Washington Church Cemetery.

Shirley Mason Myers Maas, 91, died on March 17, 2012 at Memorial Hospital Mission Campus in Asheville, NC. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
