She was born September 9, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Arthur Harper and Catherine MacVicar Harper. She is survived by her husband of 49 1/2 years, George Franklin Miner, Jr., of Edneyville, three children; Jane Artman and her husband Joseph of Waynesboro, PA., Arthur Miner of North Stonington, CT., and Karen Wood and her husband James of McHenry, MD., grandchildren Garrett and Faith Miner and Kaitlyn and Jillian Wood and a brother Arthur Harper of Melbourne, FL. Judy Campbell Parent passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012. She was born on August 8, 1947 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Dorothy Lawson Campbell and the late Colonel Charles Spencer Campbell, Sr., US Army (Ret). She had one sibling, Colonel Charles Spencer Campbell, Jr., US Army (Ret). Judy was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Mike, her brother Spence,a niece, a nephew and several grandchildren. Margaret Porter, of Hendersonville passed away peacefully on Thursday November 8, 2012 at Elizabeth House. She was a resident of Henderson County for the past 6 years, most recently residing at Spring Arbor West. She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (George) Brengel of Hendersonville, NC, Sandra (Alan) Madison of Taos, NM, one granddaughter, three grandsons, three great-grandsons, and long-time friends Alfred and Elsie Johnson of Welford, SC. Roanell Stepp Bishop, 88, of Hendersonville, died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Pardee Hospital. Mrs. Bishop was born September 29, 1924 in Henderson County to the late Grayson Bly Stepp and Lula Mae McCraw Stepp of Edneyville. She graduated from Edneyville High School and married the late Ben Henry Bishop of Mills River on Thanksgiving Day 1948. They were married for 62 years. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert K., James H., and Redford Stepp, as well as a sister, Mattie Stepp. A loving mother, Roanell is survived by her daughter RoAnn Bishop of Raleigh, sister-in-law Ercelle Stepp of Flat Rock and brother-in-law LD Bishop of Hendersonville. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday Nov.13, 2012 at Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel, burial to follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends the evening before, Monday, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Edward Eugene Lindsey, 81, of Candler, died Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the VA Medical Center. A native of Madison Co., he was a son of the late Garfield and Mary Graves Lindsey. Mr. Lindsey was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in Korea. He is survived by his wife, Lela Medford Lindsey; a son, Allen Lee Lindsey; grandchildren Elisha Marie Lindsey and Caleb Allen Lindsey; sisters Louise Minton and Inez Kimbell; and brother Garfield Lindsey. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at White Rock Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Charles “C.R.” Burgess Raines, 72, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Wayman Burgess Raines and Mary Perry Raines. He was also preceded in death by his former wife, Shelby Raines. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Surviving are his wife, Barbara W. Raines; daughters, Krystal Raines of Horse Shoe, and Karla Raines Mather and husband Ian of Pisgah Forest; son, Steven Raines and wife Sandra of Brevard; brothers, Harley Raines and wife Elaine of Brevard, and Pete Raines and wife Annette of Brevard; grandchildren, Dennis Mather and Layne Barber; great grandchild, Kinley Barber; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, November 11, 2012 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Larry Wilson and Bob Marshall officiating. Alma Mae Pruitt Merrill, 84, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at The Oaks of Brevard. A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Bob Pruitt and Agnes Murray Pruitt. Patricia Creasman Loftis, 62, passed away peacefully and ascended into the loving arms of her Savior in Heaven on Monday, November 5, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Bryant and Claudine Simpson Creasman, one niece, Tiffani Creasman and one nephew, Tyler Creasman. Joe Dan Spearman Sr, 77, of Hendersonville, died on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Elizabeth House. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Elizabeth Spearman who died in 1982. Joe is survived by his wife, Sylvia Spearman of Hendersonville; two children from his first marriage: his son, Joe Dan Spearman Jr. of Hendersonville, and daughter, Cynthia Spearman Spell and her husband Wayne of Salemburg; two step children: Robbie Stevens, Jeffery Stevens and his wife Annette all of Hendersonville; five grandchildren: Mary Elizabeth Spell of Charlotte, Joe Dan Spearman III of Hendersonville, Richard Kreis Spell of Salemburg, Blake Julian Spearman of Hendersonville, Matthew Wayne Spell of Salemburg; one step granddaughter: Stacy Stevenson of Hendersonville; one brother: Dean Spearman and one sister: Nancy Scisan, both of Kings Mountain. John Frazier Kenney, of Hendersonville died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 4, at Pardee Hospital after years of declining health. He was the husband of the late Vivien (Hulsey) Kenney with whom he shared 29 years of marriage. He was born in Malden, MA on June 14, 1926, son of the late Evangeline (Abbott) Kenney and John Kenney. John had three children, the late Sharon (Kenney) Merrill who died in 2002 and was married to Robert Merrill, and is survived by two sons and a daughter in-law; Barry Kenney of Essex Junction, VT and James Kenney and his wife Joanne (Wood) Kenney of Tewksbury, MA; a step-daughter, Lisa (Hulsey) Nolan and her husband, Boyd of Norman, OK, a step-son, James Hulsey and his wife Sheri of Edmond, OK; nine grandchildren, Bridget (Merrill) Garabedian, Heather (Merrill) Crowley, Matthew Diapella, Justin Nolan, Jessica, Joshua and Jaclyn Kenney, Heather (Hulsey) Smith and James Curtis Hulsey III and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 10, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with mililtary honors. Thomas Melvin Goins, 75, of Zirconia died Wednesday at his home. A native of Henderson County, Mr. Goins was a son of the late Clyde and Ada Jones Goins. He was a logger, and member of the Tuxedo 1st Baptist Church. Survivors include the wife, Ella Bayne Goins; one daughter, Mary Goins, of the home; one brother, Wayne Goins, of Zirconia; two sisters, Betty Beddingfield of Zirconia and Ann Hood of Travelers Rest, S.C.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2;00 pm at the Tuxedo 1st Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1;00pm until 1;45 at the Church. Burial will follow in the Tuxedo Cemetery.
Jane Tornholm, 82, of Hendersonville, died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at her home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Tornholm who died in 2006; a daughter, Peggy Tornholm; a grandson, Richard Chubb; two sisters; and one brother. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Tornholm of Mason, MI and Jeri Schneider of Powder Springs, GA; three grandchildren, Susan Jensen, Steven and James Schneider; two great granddaughters all of Nebraska; and a brother, Robert Palmquist of Mesa, AZ. She was born January 3, 1924 in Gary, West Virginia to the late Luther Blevins and Grace Barrett Blevins. She was the wife of the late John E. Bundy.
