Rev. Brian Keith Gilliam, age 32, of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord Feb. 17, 2012. He was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church. He was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church. He was born September 1, 1979 the son of Mary Ann Henry Gilliam Frye of Hendersonville and Gary Ray Gilliam of Pisgah Forest. He was preceded in death by Paternal Grandfather Billy Gilliam and Step Father Bill Frye. He resided with his precious Mother who cared for him so wonderfully. He also left behind his Mother's Fiancé, Joe Acosta. In addition to his Parents he is survived by a dear brother Kevin Gilliam of Hendersonville and half Brother Derek Gilliam of Pisgah Forest; his loving Maternal Grandparents Lester and Carolyn Henry of Hendersonville; also surviving is Beulah Dildine Paternal Grandmother of Hendersonville. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday Feb. 22, 2012 at Fletcher First Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Waldroup, Rev. Stanley Adcock, and Rev. Bobbie Arrowood officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at Thos. Shepherd & Son. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Carolyn Manware, 66, passed away Saturday morning February 18, 2012 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter. She is survived by her husband William (Bill) Manwear of Cullowhee, her oldest daughter, two granddaughters and her father and mother and two brothers. A Private family gathering is being observed.

William Baxter “Dock” Jones, 90, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2012. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late John Edward Jones and Beulah Gossitt Jones. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Dan Medford Jones and Moyce Joe Jones, brothers, Johnny and Julian Jones, and sisters, Margaret Matthews, Margie Littleton, and Pearl Revis. Mr. Jones was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during WW II. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Addis V. Chapman Jones; daughter, Betty Jones Bryson and husband Dennis of Brevard; son, Billy Edward Jones of Brevard; grandchildren, Kimberly Clark and husband Dickey of Hendersonville, Jeff Bryson and wife Pam of Elizabethtown, KY, Brandon “Buck” Jones and wife Mandy of Brevard, Brandy Jones of Illinois, and Michael Jones of New York; great-grandchildren, Chad Galloway, Andrew Rogers, Taylor Rogers, Dillion Bryson, Taylor Nicole Clark, and Terrance Benz; great-great grandchildren, Anthony and Caroline Galloway; 48 nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Owen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Monday at the funeral home. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Carroll “Pete” Fisher Owen, 58, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 after a brave battle with cancer. Pete was born on June 6, 1953 to the late Clinton Ford Owen and Lucy Fisher Owen of Lake Toxaway. He is survived by his brother Clinton Owen and wife Carolyn Sue of Lake Toxaway; son, Chip Owen and wife Beverly of Pisgah Forest; daughter, Crystal Pouge and husband Frankie of Pisgah Forest; adopted daughter, Hallie Owen of Idaho; a caring and loving girlfriend, Tami Goostree of Pisgah Forest; step-sons, Thomas Sweezy and wife Brittanie of Hendersonville, and Nick Sweezy and wife Linz of Hendersonville; three granddaughters, Chloe, Caroline, and Camree Owen; two grandsons, Memphis and Drayton Sweezy; two special children, Megan and Bryan Goostree. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, February 21, 2012 at Brevard Community Church, Morris Rd. Burial will be in Lake Toxaway Baptist Church Cemetery and will be preceded with a motorcycle ride to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Tuesday at Brevard Community Church. Christine Hill McCrary, 77, of Hendersonville passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 after a short illness. A native of Henderson County, she was a daughter of the late P.V. and Ethel Corn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Hill; husbands: Nolan Hill and Troy McCrary; step son, Tim McCrary; and brothers: Hershel Corn and Harvey Corn. She is survived by her sisters: Lola Love of Hyattsville, MD., and Sarah Godwin of Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Bonnie Corn of Hendersonville; brothers: Ray Corn and wife, Martha of Mountain Home, and Wayne Corn and wife, Nancy of Fletcher; a step son, Mike McCrary and wife Teresa of Hendersonville; step daughter, Rita Scott, and her husband, Bob of Port St. Lucie, FL.; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2012 beginning 3:00 p.m. at East Flat Rock Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Monday, February 20, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Home. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Santa Vada Hargus, 77, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Elizabeth House after an extended illness. A life-long resident of Henderson County, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Sants Hipps. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Bill, Jr. and her canine friend “Rosie”. She is survived by two sons, William M. “Kenny” Hargus and his wife Rita, and Gregory Mark Hargus and his wife Beverly; two daughters, Donna Lynn Fullbright and her husband Keith, and Kathy Jean Tuttle; five brothers and sisters, Madeline Kilpatrick of OK, Willis P. Hipps of Brevard, Horace Hipps of Hendersonville, Margaret Huntley of Fletcher and Phralo Hipps of TN; five grandchildren, Cody Hargus, Colton Hargus, Annie Battista and her husband Chris, Haley Hargus and Heather Fullbright. A graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Forest Lawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
