Acie Carl Waldrop, 87, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late William Mays Waldrop and Allie Whitmire Waldrop. Mr. Waldrop was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during WW II and Korea. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Bryson Waldrop; son, Tim Waldrop and wife Kim of Brevard; grandchildren, Scott Waldrop, Misty Waldrop Sheppard and husband Robert all of Brevard, Lauren Waldrop of Florida, and Joshua Allen of Brevard; sister, Edna Holden of Brevard; brother, Joe Waldrop and wife Shirley of Marion, NC. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with military rites conducted. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Bonnie M. Cunningham, age 95, of Sylva died Monday, May 20, 2013 at Mountain Trace Nursing Center of Sylva, NC. Mrs. Cunningham was born April 15, 1918 in Jackson Co, NC. She is the daughter of the late George and Georginna (Sutton) Hensley. Mrs. Cunningham is preceded in death by her husband, CW Cunningham; two sisters and one brother. She is survived by four sons; Robert J. Cunningham of Sylva, Tom Cunningham of Sylva, Jim Cunningham of Dillsboro, and Mike Cunningham of Sylva; and three daughters; Mary Sue Gulino of Jamestown, NY, Linda Lou C. Snyder of Houston, TX, and Shirley Ann Ashe of Sylva. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret Turpin of Sylva; 16 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 11:00 am at Locust Field Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 6 pm until 8 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services. Burial will be in Locust Field Cemetery.
Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Crowder Wheeless age 69, of Brevard died Sunday, May 18 2013. Funeral services will be held Friday May 24, 2013 at 2:00pm at The First United Methodist Church of Brevard. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening May 23, 2013 from 6-7:30pm at the funeral home. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Charles V. Cavicchio, Jr, 76, of Hendersonville, died Tuesday at Pardee Hospital. Shuler Funeral Home will announce the arrangements.

Linda Davis Southerland, 70, of Brevard, NC passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Monday May 20, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Paul and CharlotteDavis. Linda was also preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Davis. She is survived by her longtime companion and best friend, Dudley Gillespie, sons David Brandon of Asheville, NC and Scott Brandon and wife Amy of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren Alec and Julie Brandon of Asheville and Gray and Sophia Brandon of Mooresville; and faithful feline friends Chloe and Charlie. A Celebration of Life will be held at her residence from 1pm - 4pm on Saturday, May 25. A prayer will be held at 2pm. Moore Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Darrell Dean Allen, 47, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at his residence. The graveside service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Mack McCall Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Owen and others officiating. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Paula Johnston Fowler of the Hooper's Creek Community went to be with the Lord on Friday night, May 17, 2013. She is survived by her loving mother and father-in-law, Onnie and Juanita Fowler, and the sixty-five members of the Fowler family, including her three step daughters: Juanita (Punkin) Cate, Jennifer Bradley, Brandy McMahan, and five grandchildren. Her family also includes the families of her brothers and sisters Loretta (Sam) Crawford, James Johnston, Andy Johnston, and Sara Buchanan, all of Candler. She has five nieces and nephews, and one great-nephew. A funeral will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church with Revered Tony Galloway and Reverend Phillip Youngblood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the funeral home. Thos.
