Obituaries 2-22-2012John Carlyle King, 81, of Etowah, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Margaret R. Pardee Memorial Hospital. He was born in the southern tip of the Texas boarder of Mexico in Rio Hondo, TX to the late John King and Helen Ives King. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara King; his loving children, Storme A. King of Columbia, MD, Jan Decker and her husband, Marvin, of Plant City, FL, and Patricia Green and her husband, Jeffrey, of Matthews. He also leaves behind two adoring grandchildren, Coley and Amelia Greene. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 24, 2012 at Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel. At a later date a private ceremony will be held at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements Winthrop B. "Win" Reed, 94, of Hendersonville, NC, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Elizabeth House in Hendersonville. He was born June 19, 1917 to the late Albra Leslie and Emma Jeanette Reed of Andover, MA. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Carr Trumbull. Survivors include children, Winthrop B. Reed, Jr. and Martha A. R. Holyoke; his dear friend Carol Schenck; grandchildren, Winthrop B. Reed, III and Roland R. Reed of St. Louis Missouri; Gabrielle V. L. Reed of Jamestown, RI; Caleb W. Holyoke, III of Bryan, TX; Duncan C. T. Holyoke of Newark, DE and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25, at 3 PM, at St. James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. Eileen Facciola died on Saturday, February 18th, 2012. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in New York City, the daughter of the late Thomas R. Lawless and Marie McShane Lawless. She is survived by her daughters, Dina Marie Facciola and her husband Anthony F. Aluotto, and Kathleen (Katie) Patricia Facciola. Eileen is also survived by her sister Kathleen L. Byrne and her husband John Byrne of Hendersonville, and her twin sister Patricia DeFilippis, wife of the late John DeFilippis, who loved and cared for her during her illness. She is also survived by her aunt, Mrs. Helen McShane of Mesa, AZ, her sister-in-law Rosalie Facciola and her nieces and nephews Jude and Thomas Facciola, Theresa Riccio, and Gail Mercuri all of Staten Island, NY, Sean Byrne of Charlotte, NC, Vincent DeFilippis of Toms River, NJ and Nora Bryne of Bayville, NJ. Services will be private. Shuler Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Obituaries 2-21-2012Carroll “Pete” Fisher Owen, 58, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 after a brave battle with cancer. Pete was born on June 6, 1953 to the late Clinton Ford Owen and Lucy Fisher Owen of Lake Toxaway. He is survived by his brother Clinton Owen and wife Carolyn Sue of Lake Toxaway; son, Chip Owen and wife Beverly of Pisgah Forest; daughter, Crystal Pouge and husband Frankie of Pisgah Forest; adopted daughter, Hallie Owen of Idaho; a caring and loving girlfriend, Tami Goostree of Pisgah Forest; step-sons, Thomas Sweezy and wife Brittanie of Hendersonville, and Nick Sweezy and wife Linz of Hendersonville; three granddaughters, Chloe, Caroline, and Camree Owen; two grandsons, Memphis and Drayton Sweezy; two special children, Megan and Bryan Goostree. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, February 21, 2012 at Brevard Community Church, Morris Rd. Burial will be in Lake Toxaway Baptist Church Cemetery and will be preceded with a motorcycle ride to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Tuesday at Brevard Community Church. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is caring for the family. Rev. Brian Keith Gilliam, age 32, of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord Feb. 17, 2012. He was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church. He was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church. He was born September 1, 1979 the son of Mary Ann Henry Gilliam Frye of Hendersonville and Gary Ray Gilliam of Pisgah Forest. He was preceded in death by Paternal Grandfather Billy Gilliam and Step Father Bill Frye. He resided with his precious Mother who cared for him so wonderfully. He also left behind his Mother's Fiancé, Joe Acosta. In addition to his Parents he is survived by a dear brother Kevin Gilliam of Hendersonville and half Brother Derek Gilliam of Pisgah Forest; his loving Maternal Grandparents Lester and Carolyn Henry of Hendersonville; also surviving is Beulah Dildine Paternal Grandmother of Hendersonville. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday Feb. 22, 2012 at Fletcher First Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Waldroup, Rev. Stanley Adcock, and Rev. Bobbie Arrowood officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at Thos. Shepherd & Son. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. Zelma Butler Massey, 86, of Hendersonville passed away Friday at her home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Wilson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Marlene Odegaard-Thomas, 64, of Etowah, died Saturday, February 18, 2012. She was born January 21, 1948 in Kenosha, WI to the late Daniel and Alice Odegaard. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her step-father Joseph Odegaard. She is survived by; her husband, John; her daughter, Lori Thomas-Williams and her husband, Enrico; son, David Thomas and his wife, Beverley Charmer; her brothers, Daniel Odegaard and wife, Roberta, Floyd Odegaard and wife, Sandy, Ronald Odegaard and wife, Zoraida, and Don Odegaard and wife, Carol; sister, Marianne Mikkonen and her husband, John; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 11:00 am. The family will gather with friends following the service. Thos.
