June Ann McCauley Rogers, 65, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at her residence. A native of Transylvania County she was the daughter of the late Eugene Edward McCauley and Betty Robinson McCauley Choate. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Michael McCauley, and her step-father Ray Choate. Surviving are her brothers, Ron McCauley and wife Kathie of Etowah, and Phillip M. McCauley and wife Connie of Inman, SC; two nieces and two nephews. Private services will be held. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Frances Arlene Shields, 67 of Hendersonville, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014. A native of Henderson Co., she was the daughter of the late Colin and Blanche Walker. She is also preceded in death by her step-father, Ben King, brothers, Walton and Robert Walker, and sisters, Mary Beck and Gladys Murray. She is survived by her loving Husband of 52 years, Jerry Tommy Shields; sons, Thomas Shields (Tenise) of Flat Rock and William Shields of Etowah; daughters, Susan Shields (Bud Evans) of Etowah, Becky Conard (Rev. Eddie Conard) of Saluda, Teresa Pendergast (Dan) of Horse Shoe and Darlene Graham (Jeff) of Dana; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grand-children. A celebration of life will be held 2:30 PM, February 23 at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Zirconia, NC. Pastors Eddie Conard and James Shields will be officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Dorothy Lee DeHart Holland, 83, of Sylva, went home to be with her Lord, Tuesday evening February 18, 2014. A native of Swain County she was the daughter of the late Will and Hattie Burnett DeHart. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 3 young children, 4 sisters and 1 brother. She is survived by her husband of 61 years Virgil Taylor Holland; 1 Daughter- Brenda Holland Martin and her husband Sean of Sylva; 2 Grandchildren- Emily Anne Martin and Jake Alexander Martin. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday February 22, 2014 at East Sylva Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends Friday February 21, 2014 from 6 until 8:00 PM at Appalachian Funeral Services.  Burial will be in DeHart Jackson Line Cemetery.

 

 

Hilda Jolene Simpson, 69, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014.  A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Mathis. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Renee Owens and her sister, Holly Reems.  She is survived by her mother, Gaynell Shook Mathis; her husband of 19 years, Jack A. Simpson, son, Benjamin Swafford of Westminster, SC; daughter Tammy Wirtz of Westminster, SC; brothers, Randy Mathis of Mills River, Jack and Tony Mathis of Brevard; sisters, Linda Heatherly of Brevard, Sandra McCall of Brevard, Rita Johnson of Marrietta, SC and Rhonda Smith of Brevard; five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  A graveside service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Rock Bridge Cemetery in Jackson County with Rev. Don Johnson officiating.  Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dixie May Gibbs Dellinger, 84, of 1110 Sunset Rd. died February 17, 2014 at her residence. She was born on November 13, 1929 in Hendersonville, NC, a daughter of the late James Theodore and Lucretia Saltz Gibbs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Fred Owen Dellinger, Sr., and son-in-law, Odell Wilcox, Jr. She is survived by her three children, Fred O. Dellinger, Jr., of Moravian Falls, NC, Ann D. Harrelson (James) of Cherryville, and Joy D. Wilcox of Asheville; six grandchildren, Nathan Harrelson of Cherryville, Russell Harrelson (Amanda) of Vale, Amanda Dayvault (Max) of Landis, Seth Harrelson (Meggan) of Cherryville, Elizabeth Dellinger (Sharlena Thomas) of Asheville and James Gibbs Dellinger (Melissa) of Winston Salem; and three great grandchildren Dayne and Parker Harrelson and Caroline Dayvault. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, 2014 at 12:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:30 to 11:45 AM in the church Parlor prior to the service and other times at the home of Ann & James Harrelson at 716 Flint Hill Rd., Cherryville. Charles "Tim" McFarland, 86, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully Monday morning at his residence following an extended illness. He was a native of Tyrone, PA and had been a resident of Henderson County for 22 years. He was a son of the late S. Carl and Ruth McFarland. He was also preceded in death by a son, Leslie; a sister, Lethian Baur; and brothers, Richard McFarland and S. Robert McFarland. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served in WWII. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Norma McFarland; four nieces; one nephew; one great-niece; and seven great-nephews. Local services will be private and a memorial service will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date. Forest Lawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.

 

Estelle Witt Holmes Winn, 86, of Hendersonville, passed away February 17th, 2014. She was born in Nashville, TN. Preceded in death by her parents, Estelle and Lonnie Holmes; and daughter Barbara Winn.  She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert Carroll "Bob" Winn; sons William "Bill" Winn and John Carter Winn; grandchildren Melissa Winn Webb, Amanda Winn Painter, Tawnya Winn and Kyle Winn; 8 great-grandchildren and many cousins. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 21, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville. The family will receive friends following the service in the Gettman Room at the church. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
