James Evertt Singleton age 86, died Saturday May 4, 2013. Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 7, 2013 at 3:00pm at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church on Tuesday from 2:00pm until 3:00pm. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Edwin Buchanan, age 55, of Sylva passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 at his home in Sylva.  Mr. Buchanan was born August 26, 1957 in Sylva, NC. He is the son of the late Thomas Garland and Marietta (Millsaps) Buchanan.   He is survived by; his mother, Marietta (Millsaps) Buchanan of Webster; one son, Randy Buchanan of Orlando, FL ; and one sister, Beatrice Buchanan of Webster. Services will be private. 

 Wilma “Cassie” Leake Chandler, age 75, of Pisgah Forest died Saturday May 4, 2013 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. She was born August 21, 1937 in Madison County to the late Derb Leake and Eliza Ramsey Leake. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers; John Ramsey, Billy, Charlie, Jimmie and Bruce Leake, three sisters; Lula Adams, Suzie Ramsey and Myrtle Ray and one brother-in-law Nolan Adams. Survivors Include her husband Herbert Curtis Chandler, two sons; Stuart Chandler and Steven Chandler and his wife April, One brother Warner Leake, one sister Helen Adams, four grandchildren; Shawn, Jessica, Lauren and Joshua and a special nephew Charles Cutshall. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday May 7, 2013 at Morningside Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the church.

 

Ruth Hathaway of Brevard died in her home at College Walk on Friday, May 3. She was the widow of Edward V. Hathaway. She was born September 4, 1919 to Reverend Sidney B. and Ruby Lyons Harry in Petersburg, Ill. In 1970, she married Ed and became step-mother to his five children: Nancy Lee (Gary), Janice Hathaway and Philip Hathaway, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; Martha Londeck of Beverly Hills, Mich; and Christina Vogel (Robert) of Oldwick, N.J.; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by a nephew, Blair Harry (Barbara) of Apex, N.C. and a step-nephew, Jeff Staley (Patricia) of Pittsboro, N.C. Her brother, William G. Harry of Indianapolis, Ind. predeceased her. A memorial service will be held at Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 8 at 1:00 pm.

James Edward Orrell of Flat Rock, passed away in Friday, April 12, 2013. He was born on September 27, 1943 and spent his childhood in Chattanooga, TN. He joined the US Army's elite Special Forces. He was awarded numerous citations including 2 silver stars, 5 bronze stars, 6 army commendation awards, and 6 purple hearts. He is survived by his wife Nancy, 4 children- James, Mellissa (husband Gary), Edward (wife Stacy) and Amanda, 6 granddaughters- Abby, Riley, Emily, Katie, Cadence and Whitney and personal friends, Tom, Jeff and Holly. He wished for no services.

Nicholas Rammacca, 81, of Etowah, died peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Beystone Rehabilitation in Fletcher. He was born in Manhattan, NY on October 5, 1931 to the late, Alfred and Catherine Rammacca. Nicholas leaves to mourn, his loving and devoted wife, Mary Rammacca. He is also survived by his son, Brent; his adopted son, Paul both of Florida; two half-sisters, Hope and Susan; four step-children, Robert, Barbara, Christina and Dusten; and three step-grandchildren that hold a very special place in his heart. Mr. Rammacca was a United States Army Veteran who served in the Korean Conflict. A memorial service and reception will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Spring Arbor West Assisted Living in Laurel Park. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

James Roy "Jim" Young, 58, a twenty year resident of Hendersonville passed away Friday May 3, 2013 at Pardee Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty years, Jean Maki Young; a brother, Don Young and his wife Lynn; a sister, Karen Tredup and her husband Dennis; a niece, Pam Rhodes. A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Forest Lawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements
