George Kiser Franks, 89, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Cedar Mtn. House, Brevard, NC. A native of Blairsville, GA, he was the son of the late John and Georgia Underwood Franks and the husband of the late Gertrude Ramsey Franks. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Shane Franks and Ryan Franks, and brothers, Junior, Ray, and Neil Franks. Surviving are his sons, Joseph K. Franks and wife Vickie of Lake Toxaway, and Stanley P. Franks and wife Rita of Brevard; daughter, Janie S. Dixon and husband Clifton of Louisville, TN; brothers, Ed Franks and wife Esther of Rosman, Earl Franks and wife Linda of Whitewater, and Clarence Franks of Pickens, SC; sisters, Jessie Beddingfield of Whitewater, and Lucille Powell and husband Austin of Norris, SC; special sister-in-law, Phyllis Bates and husband Jim of Easley, SC; four grandchildren, David Dixon and wife Libby, Josh Galloway and wife Meredith, Derek Galloway, and Daniel Franks; six great grandchildren; Rosa Dixon, Whitley, Bryce, Drew, Maggi, and Dalton Galloway. The funeral service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, May 19, 2013 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Montvale-Whitewater Cemetery, Sapphire, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Bruce Haselton Evans, 73, of Brevard, NC, died on Tuesday, May 14th 2013 at the Elizabeth House. Born in Rome, NY, he was the son of the late E. Arnold and Joan Haselton Evans. He married Margo Frey in 1962 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July 2012. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Barton Evans of Brevard, and Christopher Evans and his wife Leslie of Langley, WA; two grandchildren, Kate Evans of New York City and Zachary Evans of WA; Brother Edward Evans and wife Teresa of FL; sister Victoria Rinehart and husband Warren of VT; brother-in-law Toby Fey and wife Barbara of NJ; sister-in-law Sylvia Frey and husband Jerry Irish of CA, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Florida will be scheduled at a later date. Moore Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Anna Dorothy (Dot) Moody, 97 of Hendersonville, died Monday May 13, 2013 at Pardee Hospital after suffering a heart attack. Born and raised in Hendersonville December 19, 1915 to her parents, Benjamin L and Maggie Flynn Whitaker. Dorothy went to Hendersonville High School and married Midge Moody in 1932. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Gene Moody and his wife Irene Orr Moody; two brothers, Hubert & Jack Whitaker and one sister, Lois Tinsley. She is survived by her her daughter, Joyce Moody Gordon and her husband, Lee of Horse Shoe; five grandchildren, Chris Gordon, Ronnie Gordon, Jeffrey Gene Moody and Mandy Moody; several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth "Lib" Connor of Hendersonville. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel with burial to follow. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 to:00 AM at the funeral home. The family will host friends at 103 Carolyn Drive, Hendersonville after the burial.
